Terms of Use
Last updated: 9 October 2026
The short version
Gift List Guru is a free service for making gift lists and sharing them with the people who buy for you. Be decent to the people you share with, don’t use it for anything unlawful, and remember the shops you buy from are the shops — we just hold the list. The rest of this page says that properly.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
Gift List Guru (“we”, “us”) runs the website giftlist.guru, the Gift List Guru apps for Android and iPhone, and the Gift List Guru Chrome extension (together, the “Service”). These terms apply whenever you use any of them, whether or not you have an account. By using the Service you agree to them. If you don’t, please don’t use it.
Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your data and forms part of these terms. The Affiliate Disclosure explains how the Service is paid for.
2. Your account
You need to be 13 or over to have an account. Sign-in is by email link, Google or Apple; there’s no password. Keep access to the email address or account you sign in with safe — anyone who can use it can use your Gift List Guru account. Tell us at info@giftlist.guru if you think someone else has.
You can delete your account at any time from the bottom of your Preferences page, or by asking us — see giftlist.guru/delete-account. Deletion is permanent and removes your lists and everything on them.
3. Lists, gifts and sharing
Your lists are yours. You decide who gets the link, and anyone with the link can open a list, see what’s on it and what’s already been reserved, and reserve something themselves. Who reserved what is hidden from the list’s owner until the occasion has passed, and from other guests always — that’s the point of the Service, and we ask you not to try to get round it.
A list you make for someone else (a child, a parent, a partner) is still your list: you can see its activity, and you’re responsible for what’s on it. When you make a list for a child, you confirm you’re their parent or guardian.
Reserving a gift is a promise to the other people on the list, not a contract with us. If your plans change, release the reservation so someone else can take it. We can’t make anyone buy anything, and we’re not responsible if a reserved gift doesn’t arrive.
4. Shops, prices and links
Gifts on a list link to shops. We aren’t the seller: your purchase is with the shop, under its terms, and questions about delivery, returns and faults go to the shop. Prices and stock shown on the Service come from the shop or from the person who added the gift and can be out of date; the price you pay is the shop’s price at the time you buy.
Some links are affiliate links and pay us a commission when you buy. This never changes the price you pay. Links people add to their own lists may also be passed through an affiliate network. Full details in the Affiliate Disclosure.
5. What you can’t do
You agree not to:
- add anything unlawful, abusive, deceptive or infringing to a list, a name or a note;
- share a list with people in order to harass them, or spam them with invitations;
- pretend to be someone else, or sign in with an email address that isn’t yours;
- make accounts, lists or reservations in bulk, by script, or to game a promotion;
- scrape, copy or resell the Service, its catalogue or other people’s lists;
- interfere with the Service or try to get at other people’s data.
We can remove content, suspend or close accounts that break these terms. Where it’s sensible to, we’ll tell you why.
6. Your content
You keep ownership of what you put on the Service (list names, gift names, notes, pictures you link to). You give us permission to store it and show it to the people you share with, and to do the ordinary things the Service does with it — find a product’s picture and price, send the emails and notifications you’ve asked for, suggest gifts. We don’t sell it or use it to advertise to other people.
7. Promotions
From time to time we run prize draws or offers. Each has its own terms, published on its page, which apply alongside these. Nothing in a promotion changes what the Service is or what it costs: nothing.
8. The Service, and what we don’t promise
Gift List Guru is free and provided as it is. We work hard to keep it running and correct, but we don’t promise it will always be available, error-free or suitable for a particular purpose, and we may change or withdraw features. Product information comes from shops and from the people who add gifts, and we can’t guarantee it.
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for loss or damage arising from your use of the Service, from anything a shop does or doesn’t do, or from what other people put on a list. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
9. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we’ll say so on the Service or by email before it takes effect. Carrying on using the Service after that means you accept the updated terms. The date at the top is when they last changed.
10. The legal bits
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction — though if you live elsewhere in the UK you can also bring a claim in your own country’s courts. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies.
